Money can't buy sense

Executives who engage in so-called "vaccine tourism" show both an ethical disregard for those less fortunate and a surprising lack of business acumen, experts argue.

Their comments came after the head of Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Mark Machin, stepped down after admitting to travelling to Dubai to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

"The reputational damage — the lasting scar of you being caught, outed and tarred and feathered in the public square over your decision to engage in vaccine tourism — will linger," said Wojtek Dabrowski, managing partner of Provident Communications.

What's strange is that the ultra-wealthy have plenty of options to keep themselves safe without the vaccine. They don't have to go out every week for grocery shopping. They don't have to take the local bus or train to get to work dozens of times in a month. They don't have to take international flights and even if they do, the planes are largely empty!

It's amusing that these same people would profusely praise the socialist health care system in Canada but they promptly avoid the long lines to get their medicine somewhere else. They're showing what they are: ignorant, disdainful, hypocritical, and totally out of touch.

Fuck you, White* kids!

Public education is child abuse. Mediocrity will be enforced:

A selective program for high-performing fourth, fifth and sixth graders in Boston has suspended enrollment due to the pandemic and concerns about equity in the program, GBH News has learned.

Yeah, we know where this is going.

A district analysis of the program found that more than 70 percent of students enrolled in the program were white and Asian, even though nearly 80 percent of all Boston public school students are Hispanic and Black.

School Committee member Lorna Rivera said at a January meeting that she was disturbed by the findings, noting that nearly 60 percent of fourth graders in the program at the Ohrenberger school in West Roxbury are white even though most third graders enrolled at the school are Black and Hispanic.

"This is just not acceptable," Rivera said at a recent school committee meeting. "I've never heard these statistics before, and I'm very very disturbed by them."

Somehow, these people don't find the NBA and the NFL to be unacceptable or very very disturbing given the statistics.

* Asians are honorary Whites. Get used to the "privilege".

Halaal shithole

More than 6,500 migrant workers have died in Qatar amid the nation's preparation to host the 2022 World Cup, The Guardian reports. [...]

FIFA awarded the World Cup to Qatar despite widespread concerns over human rights violations and treatment of migrant workers. Amnesty International has since documented conditions of workers being "exploited" and "subjected to forced labor."

"They can’t change jobs, they can’t leave the country, and they often wait months to get paid," a report from the human rights organization states.

Just a little temporary slavery. Perhaps, FIFA can award the next World Cup to North Korea.

Time for his pension

Mark Manchin ignored the line:

The chief executive of the fund that manages Canada Pension Plan investments has resigned after it was revealed that he decided to travel to the United Arab Emirates, where he arranged to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

This is bizarre on three levels.

  1. Why can't such people wait a few weeks or months for their free vaccine?
  2. With all his wealth and connections, he couldn't simply buy a couple of doses in Canada?
  3. The backlash against politicians and celebrities who pull these stunts is intense. Has this guy not been paying attention?

What the pitch?

Manic, manic, manic. The speed of the final act of the third Test was, on the one hand, a gross misrepresentation of the extraordinary mayhem that had preceded it.

These are the four completed team scores: 112, 145, 81, 49. If that wasn't surreal enough:

There was Joe Root, England's most likely source of a revival but in his most unlikely guise, claiming the astonishing figures of 5 for 8 in 6.2 overs, the most economical five-for by a spinner in Test history, and the first by an England captain since Bob Willis in 1983.

Denmark gets serious

Jino Victoria Doabi's voice cracks as she describes the bidding war between Denmark's political parties to make it harder for those born abroad to become citizens.

"It makes me feel that I'm not worth anything," she sobs. "I study at the finest university in Denmark and I study the hardest of everyone, and I work hard to improve democracy too, and still this is nothing - just because of where I was born."

Yeah, welcome to the real world. My father worked in Saudi Arabia for three decades. After retirement, he was given six months to settle his affairs and fuck off back to his native land. The West has been too generous. Finally, they are starting to take concrete steps:

The New Right's proposal would split those eligible for citizenship into two groups - those from largely Muslim areas such as the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and those from elsewhere.

Of course, these "new Danes" are not happy.

The only parties pushing in the other direction are the small, minority parties of the centre and Left, such as the Social Liberal Party for which Doabi is standing as a citizen representative in Copenhagen.

This alone should get her banned from getting citizenship.

Releasing the demons

No points for guessing his race:

A triple murder suspect has confessed, saying he killed a neighbor first and cut her heart out to eat at home, the OSBI reported.

"He took the heart back to 214 West Minnesota, Chickasha," an agent with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation told a judge in a request for a search warrant.

"He cooked the heart with potatoes to feed to his family to release the demons," the agent wrote.

Lawrence Paul Anderson is accused of killing the neighbor at her home and then going to his home and killing his uncle and a 4-year-old girl on Feb. 9.

The government can't even do its basic job of keeping criminals behind bars:

The case already has sparked outrage because the repeat felon had been released early from prison in January. He had been sentenced in 2017 to serve 20 years behind bars but got out after Gov. Kevin Stitt commuted his time.

That was the third time he was sent to prison and in all cases he was released early.

No country for White men

Before 2021: Say the word NIGGER and you're fired from your job.

2021: Have a mere discussion regarding the proper context in which the VERY SUPER BAD word can be uttered and you're fired from your job.

The online publication Slate has suspended a well-known podcast host after he debated with colleagues over whether people who are not Black should be able to quote a racial slur in some contexts.

It never ends.

Joel Anderson, a Black staff member at Slate who hosted the third season of the podcast “Slow Burn,” disagreed. “For Black employees, it’s an extremely small ask to not hear that particular slur and not have debate about whether it’s OK for white employees to use that particular slur,” he said.

Of course. Black people are so weak, feeble, and fragile that they can't handle a discussion. This will definitely improve the employment prospects of Blacks across America.

Oh, being quiet and not engaging with these malicious clowns won't help you either since SILENCE IS VIOLENCE!

You horrible raycisss!

The authors of a new book are arguing for race-blind dating apps — and the removal of filters for race and ethnicity. [...]

“The idea of having racial preferences is unacceptable and illegal in any other arena,” she added. “But it’s literally built into the structure of these dating apps.”

So? Gender discrimination is also illegal in other arenas.

This part made me laugh:

Mish, a black executive assistant to C-suite business administrators, told The Post that her digital quest for companionship reaped a paltry handful of bad love connections. “I’m very turned off by dating sites now,” the 53-year-old Bronx native insisted.

“They make me feel uneasy. Like I’m not being seen as the beautiful queen I am.”

If you don't participate in her delusions, then you're a raycisss!

Skin in the game

Taleb is right. Plus, Cruz knows that the media loathes him which makes his vacation even more senseless.

No harpoon for you!

Fatty McFatty is not happy with the world:

Nina Navajas Pertegás, assistant professor and researcher at the UV Department of Social Work and Social Services, has carried out a study on the consequences of fatphobia and the cultural imposition of thinness through her own experience, with a body itinerary that ranges from her childhood to adulthood.

This part is gold:

Her intention with this work is clear: "to contribute to making other lives possible and to naturalize the idea that you can live being fat, because our lives are also interwoven with affection, enjoyment, beauty and happiness."

"You can live being fat." Sure. Just subtract a couple of decades from the average.

Never give an inch

Trump should get massive credit for bringing up this exact point a few years ago. After destroying the statues of those eeevil confederates, the mob will go after Washington, Jefferson, etc. All those White people must be erased because they did something uncouth.

The University of Washington's Black Student Union has garnered nearly 8,000 signatures on a petition that demands the school remove a statue of George Washington, the school's - and the state's - namesake.

The petition claims the statue "perpetuates white supremacy and preserves its historical imposition," because George Washington owned slaves.

Just wait. They'll be going after the dollar soon. Blacks have to look at the images of slave holders when they use the White Supameciss money.

Anyway, it would be amusing to know the number of Muslims who signed this petition because ... slavery.

The Woke Mob in the current year

The mob put pressure to erase a Black character and in doing so deprived a family of royalties. It's amusing how this behavior is totally progressive now:

The Quaker Oats Company have given Aunt Jemima a new name and new look, but the families of some of the women who portrayed her over the years feel they are being erased. [...]

The relatives are upset that the brand has been renamed Pearl Milling Company, discontinuing the Aunt Jemima brand. Hunter, who said both his great grandmother and his grandmother portrayed the fictional character for the company, said the move not only cheats his family out of earnings both women are due, but also erases them from history. He's pursuing litigation.

"They are engaged in a propaganda campaign to steal not only the royalties from my family, but change the name," he said.

John Effin' Kerry!

Making Texas Hot Again:

After days of being without power due to frozen windfarms, Texans are rejoicing at the news that Climate Czar John Kerry will personally warm up the entire state and thaw out all the windmills by flying around in his massive private jet.

"John Kerry, reporting for duty!" said Kerry as he swooped in and buzzed the wind farms, pumping heat and CO2 into the atmosphere. "I'll get these old wind turbines spinning again!"

Mildly cold in Texas

I know it's serious. I know a lot of people are enduring things that are very difficult. But, I have to admit, as a survivor of some of Minnesota's coldest-ever winters, it's hard not to be just a little bemused by people prophesying doom on the basis of "temperatures expected to drop to as low as 11F in Houston and 9F in San Antonio."

I mean, in 1983, I once waited 30 minutes for a bus in -40F windchill temperature. They didn't even cancel school!

Vox Day goes on to offer excellent advice on how to handle the cold. A few years ago, we had -40C wind chill in Ontario. Universities, colleges, and schools were open! I had to walk to work. It hurt but it was manageable.

Those eeevil coffee shops

The Bee knows how to sting:

"We must ban coffee shops, as people can have conversations there that journalists are unable to fact-check," wrote Taylor Lorenz in a piece for the Times this morning. "I went up to a group in a coffee shop just the other day and sat down with them so I could record their conversation, fact-check, and dox them. They told me to 'go away' and that 'you're really weird and kinda scaring us a bit, lady' -- is this the future of democracy? People participating in free speech without any journalists around to monitor them?"

Punishing the poor

Over a million jobs in danger according to their own analysis:

A federal $15 minimum wage could soon become reality, thanks to Rep. Pramilya Jayapal's seemingly successful efforts to secure its inclusion in the House's forthcoming $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package. Democrats are celebrating this potential win, believing that it could lift millions of working class Americans out of poverty. [...]

As part of their rationale for raising the minimum wage to $15, Democrats are citing a new Congressional Budget Office analysis finding that it would lift 900,000 workers above the poverty line. Yet that same analysis also finds that the "Fight for $15" would leave 1.4 million fewer workers employed, and that prices would rise to offset much of the costs. And there's every reason to believe these downsides would paradoxically hit disadvantaged and marginalized workers hardest.

Yup. It's not hedge fund managers, doctors, engineers, teachers or politicians who will lose their jobs when the minimum wage is hiked. Those who do get hit will learn the harsh truth about the real minimum wage: $0/hr.

Just a little husky

A BMI of over 40 is classified as very severely obese. Liam Thorp holds the world record:

A man in his 30s with no underlying health conditions was offered a Covid vaccine after an NHS error mistakenly listed him as just 6.2cm in height.

Liam Thorp was told he qualified for the jab because his measurements gave him a body mass index of 28,000.

Their system accepts absurd data and spits out the results. Strange that there's no red flag when an extreme value shows up. Apparently, it's not just the NHS in England.

The BMI calculator at Diabetes Canada.
Weight: 500 lbs.
Height: 1 cm.
BMI: 2267737.4.
Their conclusion is quite apt: "This is considered obese."

Jew got to be kidding me?

Morgan Freeman gets closer every day to playing Adolf Hitler in an epic WWII movie. Perhaps, Usain Bolt could get the role of FDR for total subversion of expectations! Of course, only a raycisss would object.

Passing of an Icon

Walter Williams passed away recently. I started reading his columns in the late 90s. I also got to listen to him as he, sometimes, guest hosted for ... Rush Limbaugh. The talent on loan from God has been paid back. There's no question that Rush was the major force on radio over the past three decades. May he rest in peace.

Here's a classic:

Miller not enough

We got a glimpse of vintage Pakistan when the opposition imploded from 41/2 to 48/6.

Azam hit a few nice fours but David Miller definitely played the best innings with seven huge sixes. The end was jarring when Andile Phehlukwayo sent down one terrible delivery after another. Pakistan needed 16 from 12. They got 20 off just 4 legal deliveries! South Africa will be looking for payback in a couple of months. It should be very competitive.

Lots of explosions and implosions

Is Dan serious? He's comparing a 100-year price chart of gold with a decade of insane Bitcoin volatility!

Forget the whole decade; just take the past twelve months. One Bitcoin was $5,000 less than a year ago. Today, it's worth almost $50,000. Bitcoin is a speculative asset. It's definitely the most spectacular gamble of the last decade. But a currency? Nope. Not with that level of psycho volatility.

Eight days of misery

This February is extremely cruel:

Snowstorms are hitting southern parts of Ontario for consecutive days and it's being called a "snow parade." [...]

There's another system expected for later in the week, which meteorologist Doug Gillham said could make the seven-day snowfall totals "rather impressive with the parade of storms."

Many words came to my mind. Impressive wasn't one of them.

Here's how it looks.

SNOW ON: Friday, Saturday (today).
SNOW OFF: Sunday.
SNOW ON: Monday, Tuesday.
SNOW OFF: Wednesday.
SNOW ON: Thursday, Friday.

The harsh low humidity combined with strong winds will literally cut up your skin. I went grocery shopping yesterday. I was outside for under half an hour and there are cuts around my knuckles.

Leftist Utopia

It's going to be tough to blame Trump for this.

The Arctic Menace

Below zero for all of Canada:

For every provincial capital to remain below the freezing mark, particularly Victoria, everything has to come together to hold the frigid air coast-to-coast. Victoria has only spent 28 days below the freezing mark for an entire day this century, and strong winds flowing from the continental high-pressure inland will make this a reality.

January was pleasantly mild. February is not going to be nice:

This week, the widespread Canadian chill will be the latest on record since at least the beginning of the 21st century. 2021 threatens to do the unheard of -- three consecutive days with below zero temperatures across all of Canada.

Plus, we'll get a tiny snow storm for the weekend in Ontario.

Losing the first Test

The Indians are under pressure again. They are facing a team filled with champion batsmen like Root, Stokes, and Buttler. The bowlers will have to turn in exceptional performances for India to win this series. The English players gel well together. They are tougher opponents than the Aussies of today. However, they are not above fear. Root's hesitance to declare on the fourth day means that the rest of the series will be more difficult for India.

Winter is here

America is going to get a mild taste of this vicious polar vortex:

A prominent lobe of the polar vortex settled over western Canada on Sunday and created the coldest Canadian temperatures in years and in some cases, record-breaking cold that was reported by a handful of weather stations.

In an area larger than France and Germany combined, the population of Northwest Territories is under 50,000. Here's why:

On Sunday, Wekweèti, N.W.T. recorded -51.9°C, which is Canada's coldest temperature since March 2017.

The wind chill makes it so much worse:

Wicked wind chill values left an icy, dangerous chill across northern Canada in recent days and the coldest of 2021 is currently a staggeringly low -66 that was recorded at Ennadai Lake, Nunavut on February 6th.

The absolute worst wind chill I've felt is -42 degrees Celsius. At the time, I was surprised with my knowledge of numerous swear words across multiple languages.

Give her a Nobel already

AOC has proven herself:

On Wednesday, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez somehow got her head stuck inside a bucket. She was heard yelling, “Who turned out the lights?” while repeatedly running full speed into walls. [...]

“Most people don’t have her scientific curiosity and intelligence,” said MSNBC pundit Chris Hayes. “Someone incurious like Trump would never look at a bucket and ask ‘Could my head fit inside that?’ But Ocasio-Cortez dives into such questions head first.”

“She is making a bold statement,” said CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “The bucket on her head is from Walmart, and she is saying loud and clear that corporations have blinded us all.”
