33 days to go for recreational marijuana legalization in Canada. The news stories and hype will likely result in a manic bubble in the bud sector which will be followed by an epic crash. The big guns will make money as the stock prices spike and then make even more money shorting the sector. It wouldn't be surprising to see year-end news stories about poor fools who went all-in near the all-time highs and are down 50% or worse.

Cronos launches its second cannabis brand:
Today, Cronos Group Inc. ("Cronos Group" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the launch of its second cannabis brand for the domestic recreational market, Spinach™.
What the bloody hell?
On October 17, 2018, Canada is expected to become the first G7 country to federally legalize recreational cannabis. This watershed moment means that consumers in Canada will be able to purchase high quality Spinach™ without fear of persecution for their love of beautiful green plants.
Is this a joke?
"Cronos Group's first priority is responsible distribution so we made sure to select a brand name that we felt would not appeal to kids," said Mike Gorenstein, CEO of Cronos Group. "Spinach™ has been carefully curated to deliver on our promise to provide high-quality products to fun-loving mature adults who are sick of hearing about kale."

Continuing with the theme from the last post: Socialism isn't bad for everyone. Those in power or those who want power do very well.
Tiny Leap Forward
Sep 12, 2018
For all the promises of socialism, it can't even provide basic food for people.
Viviana Vargas was worried after her son Mathias was born in April last year. The 30-year-old Venezuelan mother wasn’t able to breastfeed him sufficiently due to stress and other problems, so the 6-pound baby was on the verge of malnutrition.
She and her husband began to look for infant formula, which is pricey and scarce in Venezuela. They found out that a 14-ounce can of powdered formula, good for a week at most, would cost about twice the monthly minimum wage at the time — about 6 million bolívares or $3 on foreign currency black markets.
It doesn't matter where you try socialism. It ultimately fails. It's turning out to be one of the most efficient and lethal ways of destroying the human spirit.
The Chinese learned this the hard way. From 1958 to 1962, the death toll from The Great Leap Forward is estimated to be 55 million. That's almost the same number as those who were killed in the Second World War.

Headline of the month: Man arrested after breakfast with woman in Saudi Arabia.
In the video, a man with an Egyptian dialect eats breakfast beside a woman wearing a full face veil, who many assumed to be Saudi.
This is in contravention of the law in Saudi Arabia, where in workplaces or eateries like McDonald's and Starbucks, families and single men have to sit in different areas.
Women must sit separately from single men in these places.
Of course, the mystery woman in the story is also guilty of heinous crimes:
"I need to understand why men are constantly punished and not women," said Twitter user Malak. "I am a Saudi [woman] and I swear I want them to punish her with him. Laughter, eating at the workplace... where are your limits?"
That's right, Malak. That woman is a total slut.

Thousands of items seized in a counterfeit goods investigation at a mall north of Toronto have been confirmed to be fake, according to police.
After visiting New York City to meet with brand representatives from Chanel, Dior, Cartier, Givenchy, Adidas, MCM and Supreme in August, investigators determined all merchandise obtained from the Pacific Mall in Markham, Ont., was counterfeit.
Strange that it took the police this long to act. The Asian Pacific Mall has been selling shit and accepting cash for, at least, sixteen years.
Perhaps, the police will turn their eyes next to almost all the Chinese restaurants and stores which employ many workers for $8 an hour. Of course, these people get cash but some go ahead and get welfare from the government because they're "jobless". One of my colleagues was in an Asian grocery store where the administrator made an announcement in Chinese to tell the illegal workers to scram because the place was being inspected.
Such people are not as bad as Muslims (but then who is?) but still they erode the trust of the native Canadians.

RT: Pakistan on verge of bailout, but revokes appointment of key economist amid Islamist backlash.
As soon as I read that headline, I knew that he's an Ahmadi.
Atif Mian, 43, who is considered to be one of the world’s top young economists, had his appointment to the key role on the 18-member Council revoked because of his adherence to the Ahmadis Muslim minority.
Yup.
The announcement came as a surprise given the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government had just three days ago defended the appointment of the top economist, saying it would “not bow to extremists.”
And then they bowed down to the Muslim extremists.
Imran Khan, the prime minister, knows that if he wants to survive in the Pakistani political arena, then he has to present himself as a moderate liberal to the world while simultaneously fulfilling the key demands of the pukka Muslims. Pakistan is the only country founded on the basis of Islam. One doesn't thrive in it by opposing the majority who, obviously, support the satanic Islamic doctrine.
Harvard education
Sep 09, 2018
A Harvard University professor claims in a new academic study that merit-based admission processes at elite universities “reproduce inequality.”
Unequal people produce unequal results in academics. Shocking!
Natasha Warikoo, the Harvard professor, is upset with native, White students.
She bemoans that, ultimately, the students she interviewed were more motivated by “self-interest” than a commitment to social justice.
“They value collective merit for its impact on themselves, not for social justice, or for the collective good of society,” she writes. “They are not espousing, for example, a vision of multiculturalism that emphasizes group identities and the need to support ethnic and racial groups.”
The best response to this comes in the comments section by Mike Larkin:
I noticed Mrs Warikoo attended a lot of elite institutions on her way from Pennsylvania to the Harvard faculty; and she certainly was 'privileged' in having 'Asian' parents that obviously pushed her to do well academically and, admittedly, her own intelligence and hard work. But not once in her bio did I see the phrase "and she gave up her opportunity to attend 'X' University to allow a poor, single-mother, Inner-city women to attend in her place." I didn't see any lines in her Harvard bio that read "and she refused the grant and asked that the money be given instead to a Navaho School to provide scholarships for poor, under-privileged native american children." She chose to teach at elite schools filled with privileged children from elite families (she taught, for instance, at the "International School in Manhattan" whose facebook page mysteriously only shows what appear to be exclusively very happily privilieged 'asian' chidren - strange, not a single inner-city or poor white appalachian share-cropper child appears in any postings from that school - they must have been out those days. Didn't she know all that time that she was benefitting from her "privileged life" and taking a postion that might have been filled by a less-qualified, but less-privileged non-asian? Funny how the students she interviewed are castigated for being all about "self-interest" because they don't like giving up what THEY worked hard to achieve - through merit being able to attend elite schools. But Mrs Warikoo doesn't see anything wrong with HER benefitting very handsomely from the same system. Don't they teach the meaning of the word 'HYPOCROCY' at Harvard or Brown or any of the other elite, only-for-the-privileged schools she attended or taught at? And we're supposed to take these people seriously?
It's fashionable to shit on White people for their "privilege" but strangely that rhetoric is absent when it comes to filthy rich Jews and obscenely wealthy Asians. What's partly funny and amusing is that those two groups would, logically, suffer the most from a system of diversity and equality.

Women Ruin Everything

A researcher whose work was sponsored by the National Science Foundation explains how his mathematical paper was not merely rejected post-publication, but intentionally vanished by the New York Journal of Mathematics.
Evil science is so damn sexist!
Multiple studies have found that boys and men are over-represented at both the high and low ends of the distributions in categories ranging from birth weight and brain structures and 60-meter dash times to reading and mathematics test scores. There are significantly more men than women, for example, among Nobel laureates, music composers, and chess champions—and also among homeless people, suicide victims, and federal prison inmates.
Wow. Just, wow. I literally can't even.
Darwin had also raised the question of why males in many species might have evolved to be more variable than females, and when I learned that the answer to his question remained elusive, I set out to look for a scientific explanation. My aim was not to prove or disprove that the hypothesis applies to human intelligence or to any other specific traits or species, but simply to discover a logical reason that could help explain how gender differences in variability might naturally arise in the same species.
DELETE! DELETE! DELETE!
Anyway, read the whole sordid affair. Science, mathematics, reality, and truth were sacrificed at the altar of social justice. The myth of monstrous males must continue.
Over the years there has undoubtedly been significant bias and discrimination against women in mathematics and technical fields. Unfortunately, some of that still persists, even though many of us have tried hard to help turn the tide. My own efforts have included tutoring and mentoring female undergraduates, graduating female PhD students, and supporting hiring directives from deans and departmental chairs to seek out and give special consideration to female candidates. I have been invited to serve on two National Science Foundation gender and race diversity panels in Washington.
Obviously, you didn't grovel enough, you sexist pig.
It would be interesting to read that horrible, no-good, very-bad, super problematic journal publication that was deleted by the New York Journal of Mathematics. Where does one go to download the PDF ...

The local grocery store had them for $0.15 each last month. So, that would be 12 ears of corn for $1.80. Get out of the way, old Asian man! That's some serious savings of $0.22!

Crummy Canada

The Financial Post on Canada's miserable investment environment:
Many business managers and economists have publicly expressed concern recently about a deteriorating environment for corporate investment in Canada. Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau has rejected these concerns, notwithstanding data showing that capital investment growth has slowed dramatically in the past few years.
Why did that happen?
While many factors contribute to a country’s business climate, public policy — including at the federal level — plays a key role. Since taking office in 2015, the Trudeau government has raised taxes on upper earners, created mass uncertainty with its mandated carbon-pricing scheme, and run up huge budget deficits (raising the spectre of future tax increases). This contrasts with recent U.S. government initiatives to reduce the corporate tax rate and eliminate numerous costly business regulations.
Funny how the US president is not named for the booming economy.
Anyway, Trudeau also decreased the annual limit on the Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA) from $10,000 to $5,500. The mega rich with tens of millions of dollars likely don't care about that change but those in the middle class who would like to shield their tiny investments from taxes got a significant hit. A few thousand dollars a year invested plus compound interest could easily result in tens of thousands of dollars in capital gains taxes down the road.
Trudeau portrayed the TFSA as an unfair tool for the rich but in reality it's the best long-term investment account for low-to-middle income earners. For reference, the Individual Savings Account (ISA) allows UK citizens to deposit £20,000 (~$34,000) this year. So, Trudeau didn't merely raise taxes on upper earners, he also gave the middle finger to the average Canadian.

With just weeks to go before recreational pot becomes legal across Canada, a new report commissioned by Health Canada predicts the demand for it will be substantially higher than widely anticipated.
Of course. When marijuana is legalized, the overwhelming majority will switch from the black market and new interested customers will want to try it. Also, edibles and beverages will be on the menu in 2019. That will be another boost in demand.
It calculated the amount at 926,000 kilograms for both recreational and medical use. That’s a whopping 41 per cent higher than the estimate of 655,000 kilograms by the Parliamentary Budget Officer in 2016.
[...] If the new report is on the mark, Canadians could face shortages after recreational marijuana becomes legal across the country on Oct. 17.
Surely, the cannabis growers and the government officials wouldn't mind elevated prices in the beginning. As supply catches up, the prices will naturally drift down.
Never on time: The Tesla Story
Sep 05, 2018
Tesla is so predictably late that this is now expected of them:
Over the last month, Electrek has received several reports from Model 3 buyers seeing delivery delays. Matt Gribben reserved a Model 3 and placed a $1,000 deposit over 2 years ago when Tesla unveiled the vehicle.
In May, he placed the actual order for the Model 3 and updated it in June when Tesla launched the Performance version.
On August 20, Gribben was told that his vehicle had been produced. Tesla gave him a VIN and a delivery date, but two days later, the automaker contacted him to tell him that there was an issue with the vehicle’s battery pack and he would be “assigned” a new car.
A few days later, they reached out again to give him a new vehicle to be delivered on August 31, but a Tesla representative called a day before the delivery date to tell him that there was actually no new Model 3 assigned and it’s now not clear when he is going to get his car.
I would bet that the two-year wait didn't bother the customer much. However, the multiple layers of incompetence in that two-week period has seriously pissed him off.
"Hot" in Toronto
Sep 05, 2018
Today's temperature earlier beat a 73-year-old record for this date as the hot and humid weather continues for another day.
The mercury hit 33.9 C at Pearson International Airport at 3 p.m. on Wednesday but it felt closer to the low 40s with the humidity.
The previous record for this date was 31.7 C and was set back in 1945.
Funny. I was out today around 9 a.m. and thought that the humidity was uncomfortable. I didn't realize that a decades-old record was being broken.
For reference, tomorrow in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, the temperature will hit 38 degrees with a humidex value of 46.

Short-sellers appear to have covered their positions in Canopy Growth Corp. in droves last month after news that the Canadian pot producer had lined up a multi-billion-dollar investment from U.S.-based alcohol giant Constellation Brands Inc.
Canopy Growth closed at $32.15 on August 14 in Canada. The stunning $5 billion investment by Constellation Brands was announced the next day. Yesterday, it closed at $68.83. That's a staggering 114% increase in just three weeks! Retail investors are buying. Institutions are buying. Shorts, of course, are scrambling, cursing, and buying.
The deal was announced on Aug. 15, when the short interest in Canopy was approximately 19.3 million shares, the IHS Market numbers show.
That figure began to decline noticeably in the days that followed, reaching as low as 10.4 million shares, the lowest level since February.
The legalization of recreational marijuana in Canada will be on October 17.
Prediction: Emotional noobs, traders, and shrewd opportunists push the stock prices higher in the cannabis sector followed by an epic crash at the end of October.

Colored Vagina Points
Sep 03, 2018
The social justice cancer continues to grow:
ReFrame — a coalition of industry leaders founded by Women in Film and the Sundance Institute — and IMDBPro announced on Tuesday nearly two dozen films to be certified for their gender-balanced productions.
Reframe launched the data initiative in an effort to recognize and promote gender-balanced films and television shows. The collaboration relies on data from IMDBPro to analyze films and television series to see how many women were involved in the production, and how much screen time female characters had. To earn the ReFrame Stamp, a film or TV show must meet a handful of requirements that call for women in key roles like starring, directing, producing, and writing. Additional points are awarded for having racial diversity.
So, fewer White men and more colored vaginas equals more points! My dream movie with Oprah starring as Hitler will soon become reality.
Can you delay gratification?
Sep 03, 2018
Or, in other words, can you become rich?
Dr. William Hampton: Existing studies have determined that many factors play a role in how much money a person will make. Some are very obvious, such as education and occupation, while some are less so – taller people earn more, for example. Our study was the first, however, to create a validated rank ordering of these factors (age, occupation, education, geographic location, gender, race, ethnicity, height, age, delay discounting) using machine learning.
Our results were interesting because when we compared the importance of these factors we found that how much a person discounts the value of future rewards compared to immediate ones (known as delay discounting) is more predictive of income than some other ‘big’ variables such as age, ethnicity, and race.
This is one reason why so many poor migrants from China become stunningly wealthy in a few decades in the West.
This is also why many poor people will remain poor. One could give each of them a million dollars but they'll be broke again a few months down the road. They simply don't save or conserve for the long term. Look at the people who start off in life as not-rich and then slowly build wealth over many years. The most common factor is their high savings rate.
The most spectacular example of that was Ronald Read. He died at the age of 92. He left behind $8 million. What was his profession? Janitor.

Story #1 about the modern Marine Corps:
The Basic School for Marine Officers is reeling from a cheating scandal that involved six second lieutenants accused of wrongfully obtaining and sharing key grid points for the night land navigation course.
Grrrl power.
Before the entire land navigation situation happened, Lt. Delta had filed a restricted sexual assault allegation, in November 2017. She was assigned a uniformed victims advocate, another Marine who is trained and assigned to provide support to sexual assault victims.
Story #2 on how bad words are very bad!
An infantry battalion commander sacked in the middle of a deployment with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, or MEU, was at least partially fired for allegedly using a term that could be disparaging to members of the LGBTQ community, Marine Corps Times has learned.
Following a vandalism incident during a port call visit by the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock New York in Gaeta, Italy, Lt. Col. Marcus J. Mainz, the commander of 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, allegedly used the term “faggot" or “faggoty” during a meeting with the 2/6 Battalion Landing Team leaders, multiple sources have told Marine Corps Times.

Malaysia, Thailand, Islam
Sep 02, 2018
It's rare to see such real and unvarnished journalism:
One day this summer, 11-year-old Ayu married 41-year-old Che Abdul Karim Che Hamid at a small pink mosque on the banks of the Golok river in the far south of Thailand. Earlier that morning, Che Abdul Karim and his soon-to-be child bride had travelled over the border from Malaysia into the Thai province of Narathiwat for the wedding. After a short ceremony at 11am and a trip to the Islamic Council offices to get their marriage certificate stamped, the couple crossed back over the border. Ayu, was now Che Abdul Karim’s third wife.
These followers of Pedo Mo deserve a special place in Hell.
Hashim Yusoff, the imam who married the couple, defended the arrangement: Ayu (not her real name) was “mature” he said, so the marriage was sah (legal under sharia law). The imam did make Che Abdul Karim – himself an imam in a rural village – pledge not to have sexual relations with his young wife, but medical tests since are said to show that the 41-year-old did not keep his promise.
This imam who married an 11-year-old girl promised to not rape have sex with his sex-slave wife! What exactly was the point of the marriage then?
Since 2003, under Thailand’s strict child protection laws, no one under 17 can marry, and sex with a minor is a prosecutable offence. However, in the southern provinces of Thailand – Narathiwat, Pattani and Yalla, which are majority Muslim – a legal loophole allows Muslim communities to apply Islamic law to family matters.
According to this law, there is no minimum age for marriage and, culturally, girls are deemed eligible as soon as they start menstruating.
This is how it starts. This is the same kind of thing Muslims want in the West: a separate legal system for themselves. So, in relative secret, the Muslim men can marry underage girls, practice polygamy (while collecting welfare benefits since in the eyes of the state the second wife with children is a single mother), mutilate genitals of little girls, etc.
A very special place in Hell. For the secretary of the Islamic Council, Abdul Razak Ali, whose own mother was just 13 when she married his 70-year-old father, allowing under-18s to marry was justified as a way to prevent “hideous” cases of adultery or illegitimacy. This also extended to forcing underage girls who are raped to marry their rapists.

Ruqaya Izzidien: Immigrants don't need to integrate, you do.
That's the actual title of an op-ed by a Muslim woman in the UK.
A 12-year-old classmate who had prematurely developed the unsolicited counsel skills of his gammon elders: I really think it's time you move on from your religion.
"What do you eat in your country?"
"I didn't expect someone like you to be a fast runner."
"Your arms are so hairy. Your eyebrows are too thick."
"Tell me about your hair."
"Your hair."
"Your hair."
That's so much worse than the treatment of Jewish immigrants in Saudi Arabia.
The term integration is bandied about like it's a magic elixir: If the immigrants and their children would just speak English and go to the school fete and the village show, then xenophobia would disappear.
But integration - an already problematic concept that should be abandoned in favour of acceptance - is a myth, at least as we know it.
Indeed, integration is a myth since Muslims want to destroy the West and put sharia shitholes in its place.
In order to achieve harmony in Britain's multicultural landscape, it's not immigrants who need to integrate, it's the white majority.
