A math education professor at the University of Illinois argued in a newly published book that algebraic and geometry skills perpetuate “unearned privilege” among whites.
More:
“On many levels, mathematics itself operates as Whiteness. Who gets credit for doing and developing mathematics, who is capable in mathematics, and who is seen as part of the mathematical community is generally viewed as White,” Gutierrez argued.
This will come as quite a shock to many Indian, Chinese, and Japanese students in the United States.
Further, she also worries that evaluations of math skills can perpetuate discrimination against minorities, especially if they do worse than their white counterparts.
“If one is not viewed as mathematical, there will always be a sense of inferiority that can be summoned,” [...]
Um, yeah. That's how superiority and inferiority works.
Blacks are nearly 75% of all players in the NBA. They are spectacularly "over-represented" in that sport. The Whites, Indians, Chinese, and Japanese people who lose out to those Blacks are inferior in that context. Of course, it's reasonable that since Blacks excel in the NBA, they'll be "under-represented" or inferior in other fields.
That's the reality of human ... diversity. Instead of appreciating this truth, the dim professor uses math to bash Whites. What's really amusing is that in both relative and absolute terms, certain Asians, given their higher IQs, are much better at math when compared to Whites.
