The Rise of Thunderbolt
Jun 28, 2011
This morning Apple finally announced availability of its first Thunderbolt cable alongside Promise's Pegasus external RAID solution. We've previewed the Pegasus in the past but today we received a shipping model of the 6-bay 12TB.
That's nice but way too expensive. The price for the simple cable is atrocious. $50 for a mere two meters!
Server Chasis: $150
6 x 2TB drives: $480
Motherboard w/ 8 SATA ports: $120
CPU: $150
ZFS capable OS: FREE!
Total Cost: $900
Future expansion: ~$100 per drive.
Yeah, I think I'll pass on this $2,000 paper-weight.
