Google announced plans today to roll out an experimental fiber network to as many as 500,000 people in a small number of trial locations.

So what's the big deal?

According to the blog posting, the new fiber network will provide speeds of 1 gigabit per second at a "competitive price."

Holy #(@! That's more than 200 times faster than what I have.
