Addicted to Deficit Spending
Jan 02, 2009
Holy #$!* via Instapundit:
Governors of five U.S. states urged the federal government to provide $1 trillion in aid to the country's 50 states to help pay for education, welfare and infrastructure as states struggle with steep budget deficits amid a deepening recession.
At this rate, a President Obama will preside over the largest deficits in American history (in dollar terms). It is possible that we'll hit a trillion-dollar deficit.
A few trillion, actually. I don't think Obama will do it because he'll start out, in peace time, with a proportionally bigger deficit than Bush created. Furthermore, it's unlikely that we could even find anyone willing to keep loaning us a trillion here, a trillion there, at the rate we're going. Too much of the world is losing that discretionary spending money.
