While I am in favor of burying power cables (If not for aesthetics than to shield them from ice storms and solar crapfests), I do feel they have a sort of bizarre beauty like a spiderweb with a big hideous poisonous spider on it.
It would be so nice if the ability to move electrical energy from place to place without wires were efficient enough for common use and it might be one day with lasers and other technologies but to even mention such a thing gives an introduction to Tesla fans with conspiracy theories galore.
On the plus side, it seems that the technology to bury pipelines, fiber-optic cables and such is advancing as I often see workmen installing such systems without digging the intervening trenches by using some kind of cool sideways drilling doodad along city sidewalks.
