Islamist Assault on India II

Umar Lee on the Mumbai attacks:

we still do not have all of the information, I do not see this event, as of yet, as being akin to 7-7, 9-11, or the Madrid train bombings which were all senseless in the sense that they were meant to kill as many people as possible and had no way of distinguishing who would die. This event targeted specific people and places. Government and intelligence officials were picked out to be assassinated who had committed crimes themselves against Muslims.

Of course. Though, I do wonder:

  • What "crimes against Muslims" were committed by those who were shot down in the railway station?
  • What "crimes against Muslims" were committed by the guests in the hotels?
  • What "crimes against Muslims" were committed by those who died in the Jewish Center?
  • What "crimes against Muslims" were committed by the four Australians, three Americans, three Canadians, three Germans, two Israelis, two Israeli-Americans, two Britons, two French, one Chinese, one Italian, one Japanese, one Jordanian, one Malaysian, one Mauritian, one Mexican, one Singaporean, one Spaniard and one Thai?

More from the moral degenerate:

This was a disciplined and relatively bloodless affair compared to what could have been so the international outrage seems a little out of order.

Islamist Assault on India

A reader of Instapundit writes about the Mumbai attacks:

This was not an Al Qaeda operation. This was planned and conducted by Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence Agency.

Initially I thought that such an attack would be too explicit for the ISI. But really, what does the ISI have to lose? What options does India have for retaliating back at a nuclear-armed, Islamist-infested failure of a nation?

An excellent observation in a long post here:

Things with India are extremely different. Here Pakistan’s enmity with India is historic. As a matter of fact, some may say that the very reason of Pakistan’s existence is a rejection of the fundamental principles behind India—secularism, pluralism and equality for all.

[Emphasis mine.]

Exactly.

An asinine post at Lahore Metblogs:

It’s about that the Indian media stop its propaganda and do some soul searching as to the actual reasons behind these attacks. A good starting point maybe, the state of Muslims in India.

DesiPundit has the appropriate response:

So let me get this straight, the way to improve the state of Muslims in India is to get pleasure in killing innocents, target foreigners, and hold a hospital for women & children hostage for hours. If the educated elite in Pakistan is anything like this moron, then I fear for Pakistan.

Most of them do take pleasure in the death of innocents. Ask Pakistanis about how they felt watching thousands of souls being extinguished on that dark September day in 2001. The response is a sick smile.

Latest information:

As of this writing, there were a reported 151 people killed from 11 different countries - though nearly 100 were Indian. More than 300 injuries have also been reported - those numbers may yet rise as several hostage situations still exist in the city.

There are some graphic images at that site.

Pining for the Empire

Hurriyet Daily News via Jihad Watch:

Among Muslim countries, the NIC expected "to see the political and economic power of Indonesia, Iran, and Turkey increase. "Over the next 15 years, Turkey’s most likely course involves a blending of Islamic and nationalist strains, which could serve as a model for other rapidly modernizing countries in the Middle East," it said.

Nationalist Islamism? That's exactly what this century needs.

The Forbidden Logic

Forbes:

there was the more well-known conflict with some (mostly female) professors after Summers questioned, at a 2005 Harvard conference of the National Bureau of Economic Research, whether "intrinsic" physiological factors might account for the relatively low representation of women in academic science and engineering positions.

For raising these and a few other politically incorrect questions--and, it must be stressed, Summers was merely raising questions, not supplying dogmatic answers--Summers was driven from Harvard's presidency--appropriately so, according to Fish's way of thinking. I disagreed at the time, and now. So too did the Crimson's columnists and editorial staff, appropriately noting that Harvard is supposed to be, essentially, a community of intellectual inquiry.

Some women can't handle the truth.

Efficient Destruction

Megan McArdle argues against bailing out the auto industry:

At its heart, economics is not about money; it is about resources. Every dollar sent to Detroit buys a yard of steel, a reel of copper wire, an hour of labor that now cannot be consumed by a business that actually produces a profitable, desireable product. It's not right to strangle those businesses in order to steal some air for the dying giants of an earlier day.

The US auto industry is simply not satisfying the American consumer. People are freely choosing to buy better quality cars from German and Japanese companies.

The solution? The US auto industry wants to forcefully take money away from consumers to prop up factories and to pay for products that Americans do not want. This is economic madness.

America would be better off if it let bad businesses die.

Allah Doesn't Emote

Via Jihad Watch comes this halaal inanity:

Emoticons are forbidden because of its imitation to Allah’s creatures whether it is original or mixture or even deformed one and since the picture is the face and the face is what makes the real picture then emoticons which represent faces that express emotions then all that add up to make them Haram.

Yup, good Muslims should refrain from using emoticons.

We're Evil

Raping infidel women is fine, though.

Superwoman

Camille Paglia via Celestial Junk:

How dare Palin not embrace abortion as the ultimate civilized ideal of modern culture? How tacky that she speaks in a vivacious regional accent indistinguishable from that of Western Canada! How risible that she graduated from the University of Idaho and not one of those plush, pampered commodes of received opinion whose graduates, in their rush to believe the worst about her, have demonstrated that, when it comes to sifting evidence, they don't know their asses from their elbows.

Ouch.

I like Sarah Palin, and I've heartily enjoyed her arrival on the national stage. As a career classroom teacher, I can see how smart she is -- and quite frankly, I think the people who don't see it are the stupid ones, wrapped in the fuzzy mummy-gauze of their own worn-out partisan dogma. So she doesn't speak the King's English -- big whoop! There is a powerful clarity of consciousness in her eyes. She uses language with the jumps, breaks and rippling momentum of a be-bop saxophonist. I stand on what I said (as a staunch pro-choice advocate) in my last two columns -- that Palin as a pro-life wife, mother and ambitious professional represents the next big shift in feminism. Pro-life women will save feminism by expanding it, particularly into the more traditional Third World.

The Apostate would have a seizure if she read this.

Team Obama

Victor Davis Hanson:

We have seen it all the last two years: Weeping journalists on election night; a journalist openly promising to help make Obama successful  ("Yeah, it is my job."); film takes of journalists cheering an Obama speech; the savaging of Sarah Palin and the hands-off treatment of Biden; soft-ball interviews and long puff-pieces on Obama as the young cool crusader; comparisons to JFK's Camelot, and on and on.

It'll be amusing to watch the MSM in the next four years. Just how will they explain the failings of an inexperienced wealth spreader?

Will anyone even care about what they have to say?

Too Much Hope?

Perry de Havilland:

Obama will bring an avalanche of policies that will be truly appalling and quite wicked, of that I have no doubt, much like his predecessors in office in that respect. As the global economy continues to come unglued, everything Obama does to deal with the mounting crises will in fact make things worse. Civil liberties will be hammered, all in the name of 'fairness', and the flood of regulations pertaining to every aspect of economic life will grow into a drowning ocean.

And that is actually the good news.

Hmm.

America: Officially Not Racist

Instapundit:

JOHN MCCAIN CONCEDES: The crowd boos Obama, but he silences them. "His success alone commands my respect for his ability and perseverance. . . . This is a historic election. . . . Let there be no reason now for any citizen to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on earth." The crowd cheers.

Let's see how President Obama does in the upcoming "test".

Scaring Away the Geese

Professor Glenn Reynolds gets email from folks who're understandably fed up:

Reader Kartik Gada writes:

For many years (especially the last 130 years), people came to America because the goverments of their home countries did not reward hard work or entrepreneurship. America attracted the best and brightest, and benefitted greatly. We drained the brains out of governments too foolish to nurture the full potential of their best people.

Now if America itself becomes a place that is tough for the best and brightest, not only will new immigrants stop coming here, but many US-born people may leave to find a new country with lower tax rates. People can leave America for much the same reason they came.

What if, say, China sets up a 'special economic zone' that attracts branches of major US corporations, and where US expats are courted, and offered a life of low or even zero income tax, good schools, etc. all while working at the same US corporations, just out of the China division?

[Emphasis mine.]

Think about that possibility: Some Americans would be leaving the US for a country that was entirely communist just three decades ago!

The Fumes of HopeChange

Greg Mankiw:

Economist Thomas Sowell really, really, really does not like the Democratic ticket.

That's because Thomas Sowell is a racist!

Now seriously:

The kind of self-righteous self-confidence that has become Obama's trademark is usually found in sophomores in Ivy League colleges -- very bright and articulate students, utterly untempered by experience in real world.

The media has been all over the supposed ignorance and non-experience of Sarah Palin. Yet it is Obama who has the least real world experience of all the four on the national tickets. Whatever little he has done is not open to the public.

Here's hoping that the majority of Americans see through this paper-thin candidate.
