Overlord Was For Sand

Bruce Bawer via Jihad Watch:

there’s one very important difference between America and Europe when it comes to resisting cultural jihad, and that is this: that in America, a large proportion of the people who recognize the threat of Islam and who are determined to resist it are consciously fighting for freedom — for, that is, the principles articulated in the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. In many parts of Western Europe, this kind of certainty and unanimity about freedom — simple freedom — as a first principle can be discouragingly hard to come by. The blogger Frank Martin has written about a teenage tour guide at a World War II battlefield in the Netherlands who told him that the Allied soldiers who fell there had been “fighting for bridges, how silly that they would all fight for something like that.” Somebody like that boy, who didn’t grasp that those soldiers had died for the very freedom that he had taken for granted his whole life, is incapable of standing up for freedom against Islamofascism.

So depressing.

Infidels in a Strange Land

Dhimmi Watch:

The UK's logic seems to be that, since both parties are willing to abide by the decision of a third part, in this case, the sharia court, and all parties concerned are doing so willingly, then it's legal. But, as this report points out, what of those veiled Muslim women in Britain who know no English, don't know their rights as citizens of Britain, and simply do what their men -- fathers, husbands, brothers -- tell them to do, that is, let a sharia court decide?

That question is not addressed by libertarians: how can illiterate women be free to choose between two options when their families only present them with one?

Understanding the Islamists

Breitbart:

Police arrested three men on Saturday in connection with a fire at the offices of the publisher of a book about the Prophet Mohammed and his child bride.

The Telegraph:

But the radical cleric Anjem Choudhary, who lives in Ilford, east London, said he was "not surprised at all" by the attack and warned of possible further reprisals over the book.

"It is clearly stipulated in Muslim law that any kind of attack on his honour carries the death penalty," he said.

"People should be aware of the consequences they might face when producing material like this. They should know the depth of feeling it might provoke."

He denied any involvement in the attack but said he "understood" the feelings of the perpetrators.

Shameful Candy

Muslimah Media Watch:

not only are they trying to shame women into dressing (and acting) in a certain way, but they’re trying to make them think that if they don’t veil and dress ‘properly’ they’re at fault if they get sexually harassed.

Of course.

another ad features a covered and uncovered sweet, this time with the tagline: “A veil to protect or eyes will molest.”

The author makes a good observation:

I don’t know what’s more insulting: the idea that women are candy, or that men are flies.

Yup, this idiocy debases both men and women.

Galloping Towards Sharia

The Telegraph via Samizdata:

Five sharia courts have been set up in London, Birmingham, Bradford and Manchester and Nuneaton, Warwickshire. The government has quietly sanctioned that their rulings are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through the county courts or High Court.

An example of sharia in action:

Mr Siddiqi said that in a recent inheritance dispute handled by the court in Nuneaton, the estate of a Midlands man was divided between three daughters and two sons.

The judges on the panel gave the sons twice as much as the daughters, in accordance with sharia. Had the family gone to a normal British court, the daughters would have got equal amounts.

The news does say that judgment under sharia in Britain is voluntary. So, either these women were somehow coerced or they're really dumb.

It's All the Same

The Apostate:

If Muslims always maintained that Western civilization was not more civilized than Islam’s 7th century ideal, if Muslims thought that the western way of life was not superior to the Islamic way of life - and mainstream Muslims do - that is now true.

I used to maintain that there couldn’t be equivalence, but we are fast approaching a time where equivalence is not only possible, but even parallels can be drawn.

Click here if you want to know how imperfect America is not superior to a world of gender apartheid, religious intolerance, open nepotism, political thuggery and intellectual vacuum.

All these years I was fooled!

More Reasons to Support Palin

Poor girl:

My head has been on the verge of exploding - I’ve had a very nasty headache for three days - ever since Palin became big news. I’m so incensed over this pick I can hardly breathe.

I'd take Advil -- Double Strength.

They are absolutely shameless and what they’re doing with Palin is one of their oldest tricks. It’s like when they whip out Ann Coulter to proclaim that women should lose the right to vote. It’s like the black Republican lawyer I once worked with who had a coffee table book of Reagan pictures on his desk.

The Apostate seems to get crazier by the day.

Palin is an instrument of a very male, very patriarchal, very anti-woman Christian God. She will advance his agenda over the bodies and souls of women.

If she isn’t a tool, she is evil. Either way, she isn’t anything feminists should find inspiring, no matter how slick she is (and she isn’t that slick).

I wouldn't call Palin evil. Well, maybe a bit naughty ...

Think of this VP pick as of a woman marrying a rich man and gaining the power of money through her marriage. It’s not real power and it’s not hers, not ultimately, and it means nothing for every woman for whom riches-through-marriage is not an option.

How cute. Sarah Palin over the years stood against corrupt Republicans, defeated other resourceful politicians, got voted in as governor of a state, earned supreme approval ratings, and was thus picked by McCain.

But, please, think of it as a woman marrying a rich guy.

I Heart Palin

Wizbang:

Kim adds: Remember when we all first got word that she was the one that McCain chose and all the pundits were trying to figure her out? An Alaskan pollster said the landscape up there is littered with the bodies of those who crossed Sarah Palin. I'd say by the time Sarah's done with Obama, he'll be one of them.

Sweet.

Can't Check Out

The Telegraph via David Thompson:

In a large balcony above the beautiful main hall at Regent’s Park Mosque in London - widely considered the most important mosque in Britain - I am filming undercover as the woman preacher gives her talk. What should be done to a Muslim who converts to another faith? “We kill him,” she says, “kill him, kill, kill… You have to kill him, you understand?”

I do.

Honest Glee

From yesterday:

It’s looking extremely likely that Sarah Palin’s latest child is not hers, but is actually her daughter’s.

Later:

I can’t contain my glee, to be honest. McCain is toast. But also - she so fucking had it coming. This one scandal, in one package, so completely captures the hypocrisies and dishonesty of Republicans. They were getting ready to bludgeon pro-choicers with a Down syndrome baby, which is a disgusting rotten trick, when disability rights advocates tend to be left-wing and pro-choice, not Republicans (who are notorious for their disregard for babies once they’re born). And this muckraking wouldn’t be so easy to do with a clean conscience if the baby had not been made a campaign issue by Republicans, who value women only as womb-machines.

Classy.

Slavery is Freedom

Charles Johnson:

One of the most bizarre manifestations of leftist cognitive dissonance occurs when hardcore feminists like Naomi Wolf abandon all their principles and twist themselves into philosophical knots, in order to make excuses for one of the most misogynistic belief systems on Earth.

Naomi Wolf:

Ideological battles are often waged with women's bodies as their emblems, and Western Islamophobia is no exception. When France banned headscarves in schools, it used the hijab as a proxy for Western values in general, including the appropriate status of women. When Americans were being prepared for the invasion of Afghanistan, the Taliban were demonised for denying cosmetics and hair colour to women;

Yeah, the West demonized the misunderstood Taliban. Denying cosmetics and hair color were the least of the worries for Afghan women. Beatings in public at the mere hint of an ankle, closed schools for all girls, no jobs for women who were reduced to begging, executions with an AK-47 in soccer stadiums ... perhaps Naomi Wolf could tackle these "nuances" next.
