Brits Don't Like Appeasement
Feb 08, 2008
Following on from my post yesterday, I scanned the front pages of the main British papers today; with one or two mild exceptions, the headlines - including the Guardian - were pretty damning (David Blunkett was admirably blunt; proof that the former Home Secretary has his good points). As far as the general thrust of commentary is concerned, as well as the straight news reports, the tone is that the Archbishop has made a right royal berk of himself.
Berk? The proper word is ass.
As was the result when the idea was floated in Ontario.
It seems that one of the groups most strongly opposed to the idea of Sharia is the one who is meant to be in favor of it - Muslim women. Of course, it is always meant to be a voluntary choice to forgo the rights of the common law of the land because Muslim communities could never coerce people to accept a Sharia court judgment over their common law rights could they? Just as a majority of Muslim students and 50% of non-student Muslim women supported the ban on veils in public schools but "real Muslims" all supported the ban according to the media.
Funny how "real Muslims" are always male clerics and their ardent followers. At least where the left, the media and the human rights industry are concerned.
