People who've been beta testing XP service pack 3 (almost out) say that it's even zippier than sp2.
And poor Vista sp1 ... "My eyes! The goggles do nothing!" [work warning: has sound]

However it's kind of impressive how much Windows, even XP, gets bogged down on loading, even on a fast machine, and Linux doesn't.

Linux doesn't get bogged down as much because people don't tend to run as many programs when they log in. When I log into Windows, I have several ranging from anti-virus to Norton Ghost. A fresh installation of Windows starts from initial boot to initial log-in faster than Ubuntu does on my laptop.
