The West Can Be So Cruel

Kabobfest:

I've been meaning for some time now to weigh in on the latest controversy surrounding the veil in the United Kingdom.

It's all downhill from there. Most of it is unintentionally humorous.

Case in point:

What the West may call oppression, Islam may call an act of faith. And if the West has any faith to speak of -- free market capitalism, perhaps? -- then we ourselves are not beyond acts of oppression.

Forgive me for appearing obtuse about kabobfest's post but it seems that a lot of people are ignoring the fact that the two legged animal "homo-sapien" is designed to function according to the hormones it contains, testosterone, progesterone etc., and its senses, a very important one of which is sight which not only is used to look but to see.
This species communicates with others of its own, and with some other animal species, and an important part of the sight sense is to gauge the "nuance" apparent in the other's reactions. Not for nothing we refer to "Poker Face" which unsettles the other's nerves in a tight "game" of wits.
Now to be put at a disadvantage by a "ski-mask" is not fair nor balanced when one has the task to appraise a person, for whatever reason, with one's hands tied so to speak.
Basically the the excuses for the subjugated women of Islam are as facetious

as
"One man's freedom fighter ........."

What a goon. I suppose Mr. Kabob-fest sees nothing wrong with female genital mutilation either, since some religions practice it. Or ritual human sacrifice as practiced by the Aztecs. Oooh, here's a good one: cannibalism! For certain tribes it had deep cultural meaning. So, in addition to not opposing masked women, the Brits should also let people mutilate their daughters genitals, sacrifice their neighbor to the gods, and eat their enemies (you know, the guy at work who got the promotion instead of you) flesh. That should show the world just how "culturally aware" the UK is.
