Best thing about all these "core whatever" proccessors is that they're forcing the price of Pentium D's through the floor. So I can spend $800 and get an excellent system that'll be fine for the next 4-5 years, or I can spend $1800 to get marginaly better performance out of a "core 2 duo" (they really have to work on their proccessor naming strategy). Not much of a contest if you ask me. That extra cash can be put to much better use, like a top-of-the-line graphics card, or, better yet, beer!

True. If you look around, you'll find amazing deals: Quite a few Core 2 Duo buyers are selling parts of their older systems on eBay.

The only component of a PC that should be bought new is the hard drive. Seagate sells 300GB drives for an amazing price of $110 (or less if you get a deal) with a 5-year-warranty.

Regarding the naming's a mess. Pentium 4, Pentium D, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo. Intel came up with a winner when they introduced the Pentium name but they totally screwed up with this new generation of processors.

I just hope they don't call the upcoming 4-core desktop processor the Core 2 Quadro.
