Why the Hatred?
Apr 12, 2006
A reader sent me this link.
Last week I asked him to deliver a newspaper to my house. When he delivered it to me, he asked me whether I wrote in it. I told him that I did and he asked me to write about why young Saudis hate foreign workers, particularly Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. He asked, “Why do they throw rocks at us when they see us in the street?” He said that in India they were taught to love others because that is the teaching of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). I was moved by his words and promised him that I would write on the subject.
What follows in the next paragraph is quite horrifying. What would one expect from a wretched school system?
Anyway, my siblings and I have experienced similar attitudes:
A few years ago, while I was in Saudi Arabia, my mom told me to bring home my youngest brother from the bus stop. I was slightly confused. You see, the school bus dropped him off only a block away. I did walk him home after my mom clued me in.
"The Arab kids throw stones at him if he's alone."
It's hard to blame the Jews for this one.
Interesting article. I don't know if you can blame the schools for the students' attitude. Seems to me they must have learned that from each other if not at home.
I used to (and still would if need be) reinforce right behavior with my daughter by telling her that this is the way Jesus wants her to act. I know they did that in the Catholic elementary school she went to. Could the teacher in a school in an Islamic country not challenge those students by asking them what God has said about behavior like theirs, or if that's the behavior Mohammed expects of them? Is there just a complete disconnect between one's religion and the rest of one's life?
