The Mist of Lahore

"Tujhe hua kyaa hai?" What has happened to you?
... wasn’t there something beautiful about sending your home made bread to your neighbors house everyday? Wasn’t there something beautiful about a myriad of cousins growing up together, competing, laughing, forming bonds of steel? Wasn’t there something beautiful about grandparents wiping away your tears with gentle, cracked hands?
I can certainly relate. I visited Pakistan a long ten years back. I have missed numerous cousins and their marriages. Many of my uncles and aunts have left this world. My last grandparent passed away in the late 90s.
I also miss the cricket, the kite flying, the competitive carrom matches, the beautiful poetic language, and the incomparable Lahori food. Though, events in the past five years have added a whole new dimension to these feelings. I never imagined in 1996 that that was the last time I'll ever be in Pakistan by choice.
Such are the whims of Fate.
