Oh brother. What were you saying about misleading titles?

Lady-Light

I just discovered your blog after conceding to my laziness and surfing the blogosphere (instead of what I'm supposed to be doing, cleaning for Passover!) I commend you on your personal strength of character to leave a religion and culture abhorrent to you; I am certain this was not an easy move to make. It's a bit shocking to see-even if you are an EX-Muslim-an Israeli flag posted prominently on your site! If I had known about you when you applied for refugee status, I would have been one of your blogging supporters, albeit not monetarily (we can barely pay our bills!)I wish you hatzlacha (Hebrew for 'success') in all your endeavors.

Lady-Light: Thank you for the well wishes.

A Jew who doesn't own a bank, a newspaper, or a piece of holywood? She must be an impostor ;)

"Whipped"? Hardly. Check the comments.

I don't think she gets the issues involved at all, or at least what's involved for Muslims.

She and Nomani sound distressingly like Mavis Leno, paternalistically holding forth on how all these poor, dumb Muslim women need to be saved from their culture and themselves by englightened Western crusaders.

No she doesn't, she didn't say any of those things. And it's true that she didn't "whip" you. She was much more gentle than that.

As for you, you're in denial. But some part of must know the truth or you wouldn't be projecting truthful judgments on "apostate" that she didn't make.

apostate

Svend, you're good at imputing views to people without reading what they've actually written.

First, I wrote several posts on Nomani, all but one of which were heavily critical from a feminist and Western perspective, as well as from an Islamic (scholarly) perspective. To lump me with her is ludicrous.

Second, I am positively AGAINST any Western interference in 'rescuing' Muslim women, and have said so in many places, and even recently wrote a post on it.

I understand you're a busy guy and don't have a lot of time to spend on reading people's blogs to accurately determine what their views are. But then don't make assumptions about what they think while knowing you haven't made a good faith effort to prepare for any real discussion.

The more I read your 'debates,' the more surprised I am. I could do better for Islam than you're doing, Svend. I could, for one, at least try to defend Islam without dragging in Christianity time and again - which of us talking with you here is a Christian? We don't care that Christianity is or was just as bad, or worse than Islam. It only proves our points, across MULTIPLE faiths, all originating in the same All-Knowing God.

I just read all your comments in the other thread, with Isaac and Josh. Unbelievable stuff. Your sense of victimization, down to the struggle to put food on the table in a starved third world economy (????When did that ever happen to you?) to blaming everything on colonialism, is really finely developed. And all the 'You peoples.' It's quite interesting to read. I can't even get angry,it's so weird.

I'm reminded of what Ali Salem said when asked what western activists can do to promote democracy in Egypt. He said, "Leave us alone, there's nothing you can do." The problem, obviously, is that Muslims are so paranoid and hate us filthy kufr so much that any association with us makes a reformer seem to be a traitor, not only to the clerics and the governments, but also to the bigoted masses. Yuck.
